When Doyle was ten years old he left home and went to the Jesuit preparatory school named Hodder House. This was a boarding school for young boys. Arthur hated this school. Doyle once stated that Hodder House was a little more pleasant than being curb in a prison. While attending Hodder House, he studied chemistry, poetry, geometry, arithmetic, and grammar. After his experiences at Jesuit Preparatory school, he left and applied for Stonyhurst Academy. Doyle was accepted for enrollment into Stonyhurst and remained there for about five more years. While at Stonyhurst, Doyle, who excelled in cricket, demonstrated some very early signs of literary talent. At the academy, he became quite a good at telling stories and reading aloud. His favorite childhood writer was Mayne Reid, who wrote The Scalp Hunters. However, this altering of the Dracula novel, did not diminish my enjoyment of the play production. I was very affect by the special effects and thoroughly enjoyed Friday nights play. It started off at the very beginning. The opening introduction was by Renfield. In the book, Renfield was not introduced until more towards the middle. Stephen Dietz, the playw repair, used a unlike sense of epoch in the play. The novel was pretty much chronological. Things happened in the order they were presented to the reader. In the play, however, there were many flashbacks. One such example, was Jonathan Harkers time at Draculas castle. This episode opens the book for us, but this was a flashback towards the middle of the play. I think that the use of time alteration helped the plot of the play move come apart because Dietz could vex certain events where they fitted best. He also ended the play in a different manner a closing soliloquy by new wave Helsing. This differed from the book, as it let the audience take hold time to calm down, because like the novel, the play did come to a rather rapid conclusion. Another difference that is spy right away, is that Quincey Morris, and Arthur Holmwood (later Lord Godalming), are not in the play. Dietz probably decided that too many male characters on the stage would just confuse the audience. It would have been fine, leave out that they (Quincey and Arthur) were both celebrateed in the first act. If Dietz had just deleted those characters fully then it would not have been so confusing. (Note Dietz may have felt it was necessary to mention Holmwood, because otherwise why would Lucy turn down Dr. Seward when he asked her to marry her. However, there was no need to mention Quincey Morris if he was not part of the story). Another difference among the play and novel, was that, at the very end, Dracula was finally killed (i.e. stake put through his heart) by Mina. In the play, however, there were many flashbacks. One such example, was Jonathan Harkers time at Draculas castle. This episode opens the book for us, but this was a flashback towards the middle of the play. I think that the use of time alteration helped the plot of the play move better because Dietz could put certain events where they fitted best. He also ended the play in a different manner a closing soliloquy by Van Helsing. This differed from the book, as it let the audience have time to calm down, because like the novel, the play did come to a rather rapid conclusion. Another difference that is noticed right away, is that Quincey Morris, and Arthur Holmwood (later Lord Godalming), are not in the play. Dietz probably decided that too many male characters on the stage would just confuse the audience. It would have been fine, except that the y (Quincey and Arthur) were both mentioned in the first act. If Dietz had just deleted those characters fully then it would not have been so confusing. (Note Dietz may have felt it was necessary to mention Holmwood, because otherwise why would Lucy turn down Dr. Seward when he asked her to marry her. However, there was no need to mention Quincey Morris if he was not part of the story). Another difference between the play and novel, was that, at the very end, Dracula was finally killed (i.e. stake put through his heart) by Mina. In the novel, she was incapacitated (not decapitated HA) and Harker and Morris killed Dracula.

Clockwork Orange The freedom of choice and the rehabilitating form of corrections encase the realm of A Clockwork Orange, by Anthony Burgess. It produces the distrust about mans free will and the ability to choose ones destiny, good or evil. If he can only coiffe good or only perform evil, then he is a clockwork orange-meaning that he has the appearance of an organism lovely with colour and juice but is in fact only a clockwork bet to be wound up by God or the Devil or State. Burgess expresses the idea that man can not be completely good or evil and must have both in order to create a moral choice. The book deals upon reforming a reprehensible with only good morals and conditioning an automated response to evil. Burgess enforces the idea of the medical model of corrections, in terms of rehabilitating an offender, which is up to the individual. That one should determine the cause and then find an exclusive treatment to resolve that individuals case, then apply it. This i s the case with the character Alex, a juvenile delinquent introduced into prisonization then learn by governmental moral standards. This lack of personal moral choice imposed upon Alex creates conflicting situations in which he has no control over. This is apparent when seek to readjust into society. As conflicts arise within the spectrum of criminal justice the main focus is revolved around the corrections aspect of reforming the criminal element. Within the termination of the seventies Londoner. The character, Alex is created as the ultimate juvenile delinquent leading a small gang. Living within his own world the use of old Londoner manner of speaking and attire reflect the non-conformity with society. Let loose within a large metropolitan, Alex is engulfed in the affairs of several criminal practices, from rape to aggravated assault. As a juvenile delinquent, Alex is finally caught and seen as an adult offender. Like all offenders he promotes his innocence and sets blame upon his companions. Where are the others? Where are my stinking traitorous droogs? One of my infernal grahzny bratties chained me on the glazzies. Get them before they get away. It was their idea, brothers. They like forced me to do it. Betrayed by his cohorts Alex is beaten by local officials and confesses to all the crimes. As a point to retribution a sergeant states, Violence makes violence and proceeds to through Alex back into the cell.

Exploring the Horror of Heart of Darkness       The horror, the horror Kurtz exclaims prior to his last breath of life on earth. In those final moments, Kurtz was able to say something so true about the whole mess of human life. A life dominated by the fittest, perceived assortedly through each human eye, and full of judgement lacking understanding of all sides. The various ways the world is viewed causes many problems amongst its people. Whether they are about racism, wealth, or even common sense, conflicts are still subject to arouse. Why? The answer to this is not yet clear because of its complexity and endless variables. Yet what is clear is that it ties into cardinal other aspects-prejudice and social Darwinism or survival of the fittest. Perception is the seed from which those two aspects grow.   Throughout Heart of Darkness, its readers are given a taste of the many different perceptions belonging to the characters. As the Belgian doctor examin es Marlow before his long journey to the Congo, he questions Marlow of his sanity and predicts the trip will have an effect on him mentally. Marlow at long last becomes insane to some of the readers, while the others argue the opposite. Depending on how Marlows actions were perceived determined their overall view of him. Racism was also argued through Marlows actions. A feeling of fell seemed to somehow be viewed as a factor that determined a person or that persons individual rank in a sense. It was as though Marlow always looked down at the dark colored Africans and preferred to communicate only with whites of his own kind. For instance at the beginning of the novella, Marlow finds a group of native-born Africans chained together.... ...arkness has a deeper meaning about life and how humans react with it. Perception causes human beings to view things differently from one another, which leads to misunderstandings and unnecessary quarreling. Misunderstandings mixed i n with fear of the unknown cause prejudice to arouse and people to disregard and treat others with disrespect and inequality. The inequality of people in society is marked by Social Darwinism, in which only the fittest and most accepted survive, leaving no possibility for those who are different to thrive. The darkness of the world is truly a deeper shade of black containing the fears, nightmares, and misunderstandings of its people. A never-ending pathway is thus created for inequality amongst people who should be working side by side, forgetting their differences, and helping to make the world a better place.
